'Pounds' was born Joseph Soricone in Rochester, NY. This presumptive urban environment was not enough to shield Joseph from the plague of substance abuse that was sweeping the country in the early 80's. Pounds parents divorced when he was two. Then his drug and alcohol dependent mother married a violent man who abused both her and Pounds. Like so many of his peers in the late 80's, the young Pounds found solace in listening to music that reflected his struggle. Big Daddy Kane, Mobb Deep , Nas and others formed the basis for this new love of rap music. It was a love that was put to the test right away. His parents, especially his step-father, hated rap music. As Pounds grew in years, and stature, his love of rap was the pretext of many violent confrontations with his stepfather. Eventually, Pounds was put out of the house at age 15./nOnce he found himself on the streets, Pounds was forced to live by the laws of the streets, where you don't eat unless you 'put in the work'. And the work he did, stealing cars, selling dope and getting so deep into the street life that he was almost gone for good. By 18 he had been to jail several times and had no fixed address, no job and what looked to be no way out. But it was Pounds love of rap music, which ironically got him thrown out into the streets in the first place, that played just as big a role in getting Pounds off them./nIn his travels, he befriended local Rochester Rappers, Siptzwell, Eyes Open and Lisio. They formed the group Mugshots in 2003 and Pounds was born. In the spring of 2004 Pounds dropped his first CD 'Spring Break' to city wide acclaim. Even the cold New York winter couldn't cool off Pounds as he was crowned 'Battle Rap Champion' by local hip hop station 104WDKX. He capitalized on his succes by putting out several succesful mixtapes and albums. By 2005 Pounds had solidified his reputation as the citys best known local talent and his albums were selling between five and ten thousand units per release. /nHe has toured with Haystack in NYC, Clevland, Philly and Atlanta. He is currently in the studio working on YFF, the first album he has recorded for national release.
